Another NYFA win!
We won again...this time against the dreaded Chang Gang...aptly named after where they work (PF Chang's). They weren't really dreaded...but we knew they were going to be tough competition. We had some great base running and a few good hits during the game to get us much needed runs, but what really helped us out was patience at the plate! The pitcher for their team was a little off tonight (and in this game where you have to actually hit the plate, a little off is a big deal) and we took advantage of that with walks.
By the end of the game we started to feel what I think were the Santa Anna Winds coming in, a warm breeze from the mountain side of the field. This made pitching more difficult as I now had to compensate for the wind, something that can really screw up a high arc slow pitch. Not to toot my own horn too loudly, but I did strike out one of the batters with two beautiful pitches that curved out and were carried back in by the wind to hit the plate for a strike. I just hope it the winds don't pick up any more...it makes my job more difficult...and it's already hard enough having to listen to Chad heckle me the whole game. :-)
Anyway...next week we face a bigger problem...some of our girls play in another league on the same night...they happen to be playing at the same time that we are...if we lose them...we won't have enough girls...and we will have to forfeit the game!!!! :-(
So...don't expect too much from us next week....just wish us luck.

That's so "Scheid"
Well...apparently, my last name has now become an adjective to describe...well, I'm not even sure what it describes...I have yet to determine if it is a negative or a positive...
To explain: The people I work with (namely Brett and Kristina) have started to use my last name in every day insults. For example:
That's So Scheid!
I am so not Scheid.
and
Scheid me some more Scheid for my Scheid please.
That last one I haven't heard yet...but I can only guess that it is coming. I can only hope this doesn't spread, because that would be so Scheid if it did.

4 and 2...
and hopefully still rising! Team NYFA won another one last night. It had been 3 weeks since our last game (because of rain delays) and we were itching to get out there and play some ball. We hit well, made some excellent throws, and a couple great catches...all while trying not to stoop to the other team's level.
This is what happened....last week, one of our girls, Natacha Bedu, twisted her ankle, to the point of almost breaking it. Needless to say, she is in a cast and cannot play. So, we asked the team that was playing before us if they had any girls to play on our team, we only needed one to fully cover the field. We grabbed tthis girl named Jess and started to warm up. Well, after our first at bat was done and we took the field, the manager of the other team calls the Ump over and complains that the girl we grabbed isn't actually on our roster or team. A petty move for a team that was losing 4-0 at that point. So we had to play the field with one girl down...yet we still kicked their butts. So, now we are sitting at a 4-2 record and they have a 3-3. We are second in our division to a team we beat (they are 5-1) ....and next week I am not going to be here!
Going to my grandfathers 90th birthday...90! Last time I saw him he didn't look nearly that old. I hope he is holding up well...we shall see. Anyway. My best goes out to the team...I hope we crush 'em next week!
